Horst D. Gerkens

Horst D. Gerkens, 83 , of Pacific, passed away on September 3, 2022. Horst, son of the late Otto Gerkens and Anna nee Steffens, was born on July 25, 1939 in Hollen, Germany. He received his education from Hollen High School in Germany. On October 7, 1961, he was united in marriage to Erika Adler in Maplewood.

Horst loved camping, building RC planes and boats, and carpentry.

Mr. Gerkens was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ralph Gerkens and siblings, Hinni, Heinrich, Karsten, Metta, Walter, and Hans.

Among his survivors are his wife Erika Gerkens of Pacific; two children, Gerry Gerkens and wife Julie of Affton and Brian Gerkens and wife Kimberly of Eureka; grandchildren, Nichole Gerkens, Austin Saylors and wife Danielle, Ashley Gerkens and fiance Andrew, Allison Gerkens, and Jessica Gerkens; great-grandchildren, Daryn, Sophia, Kaia, and Chase; loved ones and many friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 from 2-3 p.m. at Nieburg-Vitt, Thiebes Funeral Home, with a memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society.
