Evelyn L. Jaeger Obituary

Evelyn Jaeger NEE Gardner, 82, of Washington, Missouri passed away on December 21, 2015. Evelyn was the daughter of Edward Gardner and wife Hulda NEE Reinholz. She was born on January 10, 1933 in Washington, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Elmer Jaeger on June 5, 1955. Together they were blessed with two children; Neil and Linda. She graduated from Washington High School in 1951. Evelyn attended Deaconess School of Nursing. During her time in nursing school she trained at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana spending the majority of her time in the children's burn unit and with polio patients. She was witness to many tragedies, but also many miracles including a cure for polio. After graduating as a registered nurse she began working at St. Francis Hospital and St. John's Mercy in Washington. Evelyn later worked at Hazel Manufacturing until her retirement. She loved sports and was active in them all through high school. She was an avid Cardinals fan, and rarely missed a game to cheer on "Yadi". She enjoyed outdoors, all of it's beauty, and spending time in her garden, camping, fishing, and swimming. She was an avid swimmer and won many medals at competitions at the Washington swimming pool. She also loved to ice skate and did so well into her 60's. Evelyn had a soft spot for animals. She often rescued stray dogs and cats over the years, finding homes for some and caring for the others herself. Evelyn touched everyone she met. Her beautiful smile, laughter, and stories could light up a room. She was kind, caring, knowledgeable, a joy to be around, and had a beautiful sole. She will be truly missed. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; Edward and Hulda Gardner, her husband; Elmer Jaeger, her son; Neil Jaeger, four brothers; Lester, Edward, Virgil, and Rudy Gardner; her sister; Jeanette Faes, and a nephew; Michael Jaeger. Evelyn is survived by her daughter; Linda Jaeger of Washington, her daughter-in-law; Inge Jaeger nee Luehrs, two grandchildren; Lexi and Michael Jaeger, her sisters; Betty Eckelkamp of Washington, and Marilyn and husband Richard King of Boulder, Colorado, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A visitation will be held on January 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. After the service, a luncheon will be held at the American Legion Lounge. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Peter's Church, the Franklin County Humane Society, and Mercy Hospice.
