Dennis J. Werkmeister, 65, of Catawissa, passed away at his home with his beloved wife of over 40 years by his side on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Dennis was born on January 24, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Joseph and Patricia (nee Meyrose) Werkmeister.
Dennis was an intelligent and talented man with extraordinary faith in God, wit, and humor that helped make life enjoyable. He was a devoted and loving dad, parishioner at St. James Catholic Church in Catawissa, and a former participant in several softball and dart leagues. He often sprinkled amusing quotes from movies into his everyday conversation, so much so that they were part of his normal communication with family and friends. He loved nature, often hiking near their home or exploring the trails while riding his favorite horses. When he couldn’t be out amongst nature, he enjoyed watching the birds outside the window at the feeder. His collection and knowledge of Missouri-Pacific trains was vast and began as a way to connect with his grandfather who worked for years on the railroad. Music always was present in Dennis’s life; he loved to play his guitars and keyboard and listen to classic 70s and 80s rock.
A private service will be held. Memorial donations are appreciated to assist with medical bills, please make checks payable to Kathy Werkmeister.
Dennis is survived by his wife Kathy Werkmeister of Catawissa; two children, Nicole Werkmeister of Destin, Florida and Robert Werkmeister and husband Brad Johnson of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, Donna Marler; siblings, Judy Currie, Jim Werkmeister, and Ken Werkmeister; longtime friends, Jerry Duchinski, Art Guelker, and Donny Lange; his devoted emotional support Chihuahua, Teeny and his grand-Chihuahua, Chipper; and many wonderfully supportive and loving friends, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
